Huntington Beach is located above a naturally occuring "salt dome", in which oil also is found. Although currently oil is a major part of the economy in Huntington Beach, it is rapidly drying up, and the day is not far off when oil production could cease altogether.
Huntington Beach contains a major office of Boeing. A number of installations on the Boeing campus were originally constructed to service the Apollo Program, most notably the production of the S-IVB upper stage for the Saturn IB and Saturn V rockets, and some nearby telephone poles are still marked "Apollo Dedicated Mission Control Line."
Huntington Beach also welcomes nearly 11 million tourists through the year. Tourism is an industrial giant in this city, due to its world reknown beaches, surfing, beautiful climate and relaxed culture.
