Huntington Beach has some of the best surfing in the world. The World Championships are held here every year, as well as the U.S. Open of surfing, giving it the nickname "Surf City".

Huntington Beach has a very large Central Park, located between Gothard and Edwards Streets to the east and west, and Slater and Ellis Avenues to the north and south. The park is vegetated with many varietyies of plants and inhabited by native wildlife. Thick forests encircling the park are covered with Australian trees, particularly eucalyptus.

Also, the parks and recreation features one of the largest recreational piers in the world, public parks, riding stables and equestrian trails, a marina, and a wildlife preserve, and an eight-mile biking, inline skating, jogging, and walking trail along the ocean.
